Jordan, So sad to hear you've left us. I really can't believe it. I love you. You were a true brother. We shared some great times, skating in the mission and NYC, partying, jonesing, profiling, and talking recovery. It was all good, the ups and downs. When I got sober 9 1/2 years ago I used to think, "Man, I wish I could just party on the weekends like Jordan." Of course I later came to find out that addiction catches up to nearly all who pass through that gate. I remember you and Shay were two of the first people with whom I ever had the honor and pleasure of sharing the message of recovery. I read passages to you guys from the NA Basic Text at Shay's house in Duboce triangle. You taught me early on that powerlessness can mean not getting to decide who "gets it" and who does not. I want to thank you both for keeping me sober. As the years went on I started getting calls from you out in NYC. You had the recovery fire burning in you and again you helped me stay on the path. Pretty ironic since Iรขโฌโขd spent that long week with you there in '95 powdered to the gills. In life's grand circular fashion we met again in that big city this past August. We ate filet mignon dinners, drank 7-dollar diet cokes and laughed about life's good fortune. We had both started surfing and life seemed all new and wide open again. You shared your heartbreak with me over the love you lost to the monster of addition. I turned you on to that great Son Volt record "Trace" which you went out and bought and called me to rave about. As I sit here in sadness Iรขโฌโขm comforted by the good times that we shared and the knowledge that you had many moments of happiness and glimpses of God and meaning in life. You left too soon brother. Damn.
In Loving Memory of Jordan Ferraro
