Lynette, I loved your comments about how Jordan fixed those make shift earplugs for your son at the movies. Jordan always had sensitive hearing himself and he would complain that noises were too loud when he was younger. Once when he was about six or so I took him to a play in NYC about Jack and the Beanstalk. He got so scared that he insisted we leave our front row seats and go find seats up in the balcony where we would be more safe. He was afraid that the monster was real and coming onstage soon and would hurt us. So there we sat for the entire play, crouched behind the balcony wall hiding from the monster as the play went on. One of my nicest memories. I guess he is now up in the balcony looking down at us as we carry on in our our plays. At least I sure hope so. I just did another piece about Jordan called Carrying the Torch in one of my columns. I will post it to Steve and maybe he can post it in the WORDS section of this website. Also I would love to see people write a poem about themselves and Jordan and post it there as well so I could read it. Thanks again for your support Lynette. Tom
Jordan was and always will be one of my husband Peters greatest friend. Over the last year he really became part of our family. My six year old son Peter thought Jordan was his friend, since Jordan always came over and played playstation with him. Yesterday my son told me Jordan went with him and his father to see Fantastic Four and Jordan made him ear plugs out of napkins because the sound was too loud for him. It made me laugh and cry. I think of him every day and my heart aches everytime I get on this website. So many of us felt the same way about him and lost someone we loved. I only hope he knew. He will definitly be missed. I remember him trying to get my one year old daughter Kaylin to say Jordy, and thinking one of her first words may be Jordy, well Jordan I hope one day your watching over us and I get her to say it. Dr. Ferraro, thank you for your article " HONORING JORDAN" I will take your advise. I will make sure to appreciate my children, cook for them every night(even if right now they only eat chichen nuggets and macaroni), thank God they're healthy, and pray they stay happy and healthy. I will make sure they know I love them everyday, because bad things can happen to good people and you never know what the future will bring. I know Jordan took alittle piece of all our hearts with him. In my heart I want to believe he is with his mom, and he is at peace.
Peter, I am glad you go to write some things about Jordy. You got it,,,that boy could eat!!!!! Uncle Tim saw the same appetite. He had more energy than any other kid in day care. We bought him big boots to slow him down but it didn't work. I am glad he had you as a friend Pete. Tom Ferraro. Ph.D.
4 1/2 yrs ago I met Jordan. He helped me at a time when everyone else had stopped trying. For that,I am forever greatful to him.We instantly became close friends and we only got closer.Aside from a few trips and slips,we were putting our "struggles" behind us and moveing forward. We boarded, surfed all summer, saw some sick concerts, ate more f..ing sushi, shared some real words and had more laughs than most people ever see in a lifetime. He taught me how to relax and enjoy my sobriety.I will miss his big ass feet on my sofa and his big head in my freezer eating all my ice cream, that boy could eat some ice cream!I spoke to him every day for a long time and when he didnt call me for a few days.. I knew. Its weird but every day for a moment, I think he's gonna call.I'll miss him always. Jordan spoke of his family and friends and in Boston I had the pleasure of putting some names to faces.Steve,it was great to talk with you, Jordan was lucky to have you as a friend.Eban, I heard your name more than you know,I hope I get the pleasure of talking with you as well. Dr Tom,Uncle Tim and family, all my sorrows and thank you for your hospitality. Jordan, you are free!Peace Bro
Buddy, thank you so much for your beautiful words about Jordan and his art. I know his mom would have loved it to think he always was drawing and listening to classical music. Tom
big jordan was a close friend for a good while back in the late 80's early90's- we lived together in eugene, or. sharing the "ramp house" with stevewright, davey rogers and mark hubbard- jordan was the resident artist- hetaught us all how to make fimo beads and always inspired us to be moreartistist- he was always drawing or painting or making something cool- heencouraged all of us to join in as well- he was the first guy i knew orlived with who was an "artist"- he seemed to live in the world of hisdrawings- he would draw little guys and make voices and characters forthem- the characters seemed to be little parts of himself- they werealways goofy, never serious- jordan was also the first guy i ever knew wholistened to classical music- i don't know if he was a huge fan but wewould make beads and do arts and crafts in his room and he would alwayshave a public radio station on with classical music on in the background-one winter we listened to so much classical that we actually knew what wewere listening to sometimes-i haven't seen jordan in a few years- i always knew what he was up tothrough mutual friends but never saw him- i never felt an urgency to hookup with him because i just assumed our paths would cross natually and wewould hang out sooner than later- he was one of those lifelong friends- ifigured we would run across each other here and there forever-i was really upset to hear about his death- at first it didn't hit so hardbecause i hadn't been near him lately but as soon as i started looking atthe old photos the memories came back and i broke down- jordan was a bigpart of my life during a great time- we had a great time together and i amreally sorry that he is gone-
Thanks DAvey for the good and kind words. I am glad you came to the service. And thanks Jules for your sweetness and love you had for Jordy. I think I am going to put together another memorial service at Holy Rudes Cemetery on Long Island some time in late Jan for the friends and relatives of Jordan who have just now heard about his death. I will keep you posted on the progress.I think sometime near the thrid week of Jan?
Going to, and getting the courage to speak at the memorial service brought some warmth and positivity to an otherwise sad day, also to see others who also marveled at a one in a million epic bro in different places and different years. Your passing was far too soon, as I'm sure you were just begining to shine, but rest assured you affected and touched so many in a good way all over the country. Often, when i think of you lately, I can't help but keep picturing you doing a ton of slappy variations,so Slappies Forever! Sasquatch forever! Jordan Forever!
Here is a list of the bands that Jordy had on his ipod on our recent trip to Costa Rica:M.I.A.Citizen CopeTheivery CorporationMercury RevBen HarperGomezGorillazCakeBright EyesWilcoSon VoltLe TigreLouden WainrightFire TheftShinsPostal ServiceZero 7Beta BandDovesRemy ZeroModest MouseWe really connected over the music that he brought and it was playing all the time. He even hooked his ipod up to the house PA system and was the resident DJ for the last half of the week we stayed at the surf camp. It made the environment there perfect for playing pool, ping-pong, eating meals, watching surf videos, and just relaxing.-Steve
I did now know jordan very well. I met him at willy p somewhere in the 90s, but i knew his pain only too well.Ya see, Jordan and i were afflicted with the same illness and poison and lost too many good years. We were veterans of a horrific war.We would see eachother come in from battle and a big hug was given from both.Ya see thats the way na works. We would meet weekly to try and stay clean. Some years were good some years bad.I sit and wonder "why?" cause i, and many of us, were where jordan was the weeks and hours before the disease won.Jordan, you will be missed and i will tell your tragic end to the newcomer so maybe one will be spared your brother at arms, snapper
I first met Jordan about 17 years ago in Mineola, N.Y. At that time I've never seen anyone sk8 the way he did, only vhs tapes that we passed around. It was a great first impression. We played tag for a few years, untill we met each other in recovery. It was so nice to know someone from my past that had a very similar background, joining me in this process called recovery. It gave us both hope.I told him he was the hardest friend to have, cause he bounced in and out.He always came back. I knew he wanted it. The disease is so cunning. I hate it. I was supposed to meet Jordan this holiday vacation in Boca, Florida. We both were doing the Family thing and then we were going to meet on the beach somewhere. Just as we did this past summer in N.Y. I would get there around 11:00am only to find that he was there at sunrise . He would surf the big ocean all day while I just layed and did my thing. It was nice to see his passion for the thing he loved the most this summer. We would stay there until whenever. We had a great summer. I went to the beach by myself in Fla. I Know he was their with me.A few months ago my back went into spasm. I was laid out. Jordan had me call on his cousin Simon who is a chiropractor. We spoke for a while, he gave me some insight. With in a hour I mentally felt better. I'm now going to a new chiro again and I'm felling much better. They both had given me hope that evening.Jordan was always looking out for his brothers.I started watching UFC. (ultimate fighting championship). Of course he schooled me on it, when it began and how mixed martial arts started. He introduced Pete to me who came over one night and fight night began. It was nice to see the enthusiasm they both had and got me all amped up.Pete and I pondered why we knew Jordan so long and we never met before. Now I know we met right when we were supposed to.If Jordan told me anything, he told me to calm down and relax. He told me I need to kick the bean,(coffee that is) which I need to do still, just for today. He always had a calm demeanor about him which I always adored. Yo bro, I'm working on it. Anyone who was blessed to have Jordan in their lives know what I'm talking about. He has a great inner spirit, that I'm sure is guiding him know.I love you bro,Shane
i started to become closer friends with jordan this summer, even though i've known him for years because he had been around the rooms for years. one day this summer i went to long beach and called him, he was already there surfing of course. i tried to get slick and sneak in but that didnt work so jordan came out jumped in the drivers side of my car and said something to the gate keeper about being a life guard or some isht. he was slick and got us in. that was a great day, the sun was out, we were talking about waves and art and girls. you will be missed jrock. rest in peace my brotha.
I met Jordan a few years back when he first decided to try and get straight (off drugs). We immediately made a connection because we were both interested in the film business. He had been working between New York and Florida in an Art Department related capacity- I was just finishing up school.Recently, Jordan came back from a long relapse and was looking to get back in the film business. He was humble enough to work as a production assistant. Working freelance in the film business, all one really has is their reputation, so recommending someone else for work isn't given out too freely. I have to admit I had my reservations, but I knew Jordan had a head on his shoulders and was moving in the right direction. Everyone I introduced him to loved him immediately- he had an energy about him, a creative fire in his belly and an ability to focus deeply. I couldn't have been more proud to vouch for him. When the news came that he had passed on, there was a subtle rage of anger behind my disbelief. Intellectually, I understand the consequences of a simple choice- but I'll never know the things Jordan never told us. I never got to know him as well as I would have liked to.
I know you are in heaven.Good wind and good sea!
WILL MISS U
May god keep you.
Jordan, So sad to hear you've left us. I really can't believe it. I love you. You were a true brother. We shared some great times, skating in the mission and NYC, partying, jonesing, profiling, and talking recovery. It was all good, the ups and downs. When I got sober 9 1/2 years ago I used to think, "Man, I wish I could just party on the weekends like Jordan." Of course I later came to find out that addiction catches up to nearly all who pass through that gate. I remember you and Shay were two of the first people with whom I ever had the honor and pleasure of sharing the message of recovery. I read passages to you guys from the NA Basic Text at Shay's house in Duboce triangle. You taught me early on that powerlessness can mean not getting to decide who "gets it" and who does not. I want to thank you both for keeping me sober. As the years went on I started getting calls from you out in NYC. You had the recovery fire burning in you and again you helped me stay on the path. Pretty ironic since Iรขโฌโขd spent that long week with you there in '95 powdered to the gills. In life's grand circular fashion we met again in that big city this past August. We ate filet mignon dinners, drank 7-dollar diet cokes and laughed about life's good fortune. We had both started surfing and life seemed all new and wide open again. You shared your heartbreak with me over the love you lost to the monster of addition. I turned you on to that great Son Volt record "Trace" which you went out and bought and called me to rave about. As I sit here in sadness Iรขโฌโขm comforted by the good times that we shared and the knowledge that you had many moments of happiness and glimpses of God and meaning in life. You left too soon brother. Damn.
I always looked up to my cousin, and not just because he was taller than everyone... I remember being a little girl and marching right up to the attic at the house in Newton and watching MTV with the guys before I was allowed and admiring the beads that Jordan made. I remember following him into the driveway to watch him on his skateboard and I'm sure I was a disappointing student because I could never learn to do more than sit on it and roll... I looked up to him when he left home and moved to the west coast, that was brave. and exciting. More recently I looked up to him for his traveler's spirit... unafraid to go out in the world, see new places, stray from the itinerary... He inspired me to take my own trip and gave me courage to go out on my own. I looked to him for comfort when his mother was dying. I remember standing next to her bed saying goodbye and being frozen there, unwilling and unable to leave knowing that it was the last time I would see her. But Jordan took my hands from the rail and gave me a hug and assured me that everything would be alright. I never would have been able to leave without his hug and his words. In the past couple years, Jordan and I had been working on our relationship as "adults". I like to think that he was the one who smoothed out the edges in our family... relax when uptight, smile when stressed, enjoy your life and your family... I admired that and I will certainly try my hardest to retain that spirit in my life. I loved that I could tell him anything and he would never pass judgement or be critical... pure love and acceptance. I am missing Jordy and I'll always be looking up to him.xoJules
Thank you Steve for putting this up. I am getting ready to go to Natcik for Jordan's memorial service. they say you bury parents in the gournd but bury children in your heart. I think this is true. I hope some of you can get to the service but if not we willsay good bye to Jordan for you. But I think it is not true that this will be my last goodbye to him. I find myself talking to him all the time now just by looking up and talking. It has been a very bad bad week and all I can do is thank everyone who has helped me so far like Trixie, Timmy, Peter, the other Peter, Steve and all the other people who have been talking to me these past two weeks.
I want to send my condolences to Jordy's family - you've been his foundation and he always treasured that. I'm so sorry for your loss. Every memory of Jordy is a good one, which is why he was so rad. I felt close to him every time we've talked over these years. I can't really fathom this whole thing yet but felt like I should say something at least. Thanks Steve for putting this up.
This is a sad, weird, and tragic event to consider the death of Jordan. Not right. I spent the day remembering him and our friendship and there is not enough room here for any one person to share even a small collection of memories. There are too many great memories. I'll boil it down to this, the giant grin, the laugh, creativity, love of friends, the flowing mane barely controlled by a torn tshirt sleeve, punk rocking, all around raging, skating, FIMO beads, and the twisted use and abuse of language to create the slang he used to express himself. His amazing mom that bore and created him. It's been a while since we were real close (Brunswicks) but those times are dear to me, and I hate to think now how that collection of memories is complete. Thanks for making this site to honor him and I'll be looking for some pictures to submit.
I spent with Jordan just two weeks in Europe. It was short but unforgettable time. Him, me and Steve hitting all the skateparks on the way from italian Milano to spanish Barcelona. Jordan, dude, it sux we have never met afterwards... I am sure you are skating the finest pool and painting the greatest piece ever now! See ya up there...
A memorial service for Jordan is planned for Wednesday, December 28th, at 10:00 AM at St. Paul's Church in Natick, Massachusetts.www.stpaulsnatick.orgSt. Paul's is a very short walk from the Natick Center MBTA station, on the Worcester line.
One of the first people I met when I moved to Boston in 92. He and his mother took great care of me. He was a great person and he will be missed.
Very sad to hear of Jordan's passing. He was an excellent friend and person who did not posess a mean bone in his body. He will always be loved and missed.
New jordan for a short time out on the west coast.Saddened to hear of his passing
I purchased jordanferraro.com in 2002 after returning from a trip to Europe w/ Jordan. We were planning on using it to host his artwork and talked about moving forward on it more recently on our Costa Rica trip. I figured it might be a good way for people to post thoughts, feelings, stories etc here. Feel free to send me pictures you'd like added, or suggestions for improvements.Steve
